Bring your binoculars on your next trip to Dodge County—this welcoming vacation destination in central Wisconsin is one of the best places in the state for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

The best place to go birdwatching in Dodge County is the Horicon Marsh, a 33,000-acre wilderness in the northern part of the county that’s recognized as a State and Globally Important Birding Area. (The main focus of the marsh’s management efforts is to improve habitats for migratory waterfowl and waterbirds, so it makes sense.) More than 300 species of birds have been spotted here over the years, and the spring and fall migrations bring hundreds of thousands of geese, ducks, and other birds to the marsh.

The marsh is also a great place to see other wildlife throughout the year, including deer, otters, muskrats, coyotes, frogs, turtles, and other reptiles and amphibians.

County and community parks and other wilderness areas like the Theresa Marsh State Wildlife Area and the Mud Lake State Wildlife Area are also good spots for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.
