Horicon

Horicon in central Dodge County was founded as a lumber mill town and railroad hub on the Rock River. The community is now known for the Horicon Marsh, outdoor adventures, and wildlife conservation. The name “Horicon” comes from the Mohican word meaning “clear” or “pure water”. The marshland basin has been home to an abundant variety of fish, birds, and other wildlife for thousands of years, with evidence of human presence dating back 12,000 years. The area became a haunt for early Native Americans, and white pioneers built a dam in 1846 to promote lumbering, transportation, and agriculture.
