Nitschke Mounds Park, located in central Dodge County, offers a fascinating blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Adjacent to the Wild Goose State Trail and just west of the Horicon Marsh, the 54 acre park is home to 37 preserved mounds—including animal effigy, conical, and linear mounds—believed to have been constructed between 800 AD and 1100 AD. These mounds are among the best surviving examples of the Mound Builders culture that once inhabited the area. A network of natural, grass-surfaced trails winds around the mounds and through the park, allowing visitors to explore this unique historical site while enjoying the surrounding landscape.
